Repairs for Noncompliant Sites - Seasoned professionals and newly-certified SEOs alike sooner or later encounter sites that may have better been left undeveloped but which now sport a house, a violation and site characteristics which do not fit any predefined standard. Nevertheless, a solution must be implemented. This thought provoking session will explore the challenge of balancing environmental protection and continued occupancy.
The Cost Implications of Technology Selections - This advanced session will explore the relationship between the cost of individual components, their respective installation costs and their long-term operating costs. The information presented in this session will let you better inform applicants or clients about life-long decisions they will be making. While a local agency SEO would never specify a product or technology, the ability to speak knowledgably about relative cost is an essential skill for every SEO.
Tuesday Morning February 26
8:00 - 9:30 AM repeating at 10:00 AM
Alternate Materials and Technologies - The Alternate System Guidance Document identifies a variety of materials, systems and technologies which are applicable for varying site conditions when the traditional subsurface cannot be considered, or an ESM is deemed “undesirable” by the landowner. This basic session will provide an overview of the considerations for various systems and site conditions.
Nitrogen and Onsite Systems - This intermediate session will look at the issues surrounding the presence of nitrogen in onsite system effluent and regulators’ push for treatment to “appropriate” standards. An overview of available technologies and likely costs of treatment will be explored.
Management Programs - Successful management programs don’t just happen, they are the result of careful planning, effective education and equal treatment for all landowners. This session looks at the basic ingredients of a management plan and presents a successful program as a case study.
